| 1 | Organization On November 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, 2008 the twelfth international Holland Animation Film Festival will be held in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The festival is organized by the Holland Animation Film Festival Foundation. |
| 2 | Aim The festival aims at bringing high-quality animation film to the attention of an adult audience, as well as stimulating screening of these films in cinemas and on television. Furthermore the festival wants to bring independent and applied animated films to the attention of the business world. The festival plans to achieve this goal by screening different types of animation, by organizing a competition for applied as well as for independent animation and raising publicity for the medium. |
| 3 | Competition for applied animation a During the festival a competition will be held for applied animation. Applied animation should be understood in the widest sense: announcements, titles, educational and information films, music videos, motion graphics, use of tricks or special effects in films and commercials effected by a technique other than live action. b In the following four categories a prize will be presented: · publicity and promotional films; · music videos; · educational and information films; · station calls and film leaders. Besides, a Grand Prix will be presented to the best film or video selected from these categories. c The prizes will be handed to the director(s). d After contact with the producer a fragment up to 10 seconds maximum of the Grand Prix winners will be placed on the Holland Animation Film Festival site. |
| 4 | Competition for independent animation a Besides the competition for applied animation the Holland Animation Film Festival organizes an international competition for independent animation films. b The maximum length of the films in competition is 35 minutes, unless the organisation decides differently. c In the following two categories a Grand Prix will be presented: · narrative films · non-narrative films d The prizes will be handed to the director(s). |
| 5 | How to enter a The entered films must have had the première after the 1st of July 2006. b The number of entries is unlimited. However, for every entry a separate entry form must be completed. c Incorrectly completed or unsigned entries can be excluded from participation. d Only Holland Animation Film Festival 2008 entry forms will be accepted for the 2008 edition of the festival. e In case of non-English information films and commercials, a list of dialogue in English must be added. f Standard for screening during the festival will be films on 35 and 16mm, and videotapes of the system Betacam-SP PAL, both picture and sound on the same support. Selected entries for applied animation are compiled onto one Betacam-SP per programme. Because of the quality please be advised to send in your entry on Betacam-SP PAL or Digibeta PAL. g The standard norm for selection are VHS videotapes (PAL or NTSC) and DVD-video only. Note that DVD's must be playable at universal DVD players! h Films are only accepted on video if not finished on 16mm or 35mm. i For entry forms and digital images: entry@haff.nl. j Deadlines 2008: · July 15: entry forms and preview tapes · September 15: screening copies applied animation · October 15: screening copies independent animation · November 5 – 9: Holland Animation Film Festival · December 15: return of films |
| 6 | Right of participation The films have to be available for screening during the period concerned and must be free of any charges. |
| 7 | Shipping of the copies a The copies must be mailed to the following address: Holland Animation Film Festival Hoogt 4 3512 GW UTRECHT The Netherlands b Preview tapes should be delivered to the festival address no later than July 15th 2008; screening copies for the competition for applied animation must arrive on this address before September 15th 2008, screening copies for the competition for independent animation before October 15th 2008. c Preview tapes will not be returned but filed in the archive of the festival. d The film copies and videotapes must be delivered in good condition for projection. e The shipping of the film copies and videotapes must be done in an appropriate shipping case. f Each film must be shipped on a separate reel in a separate box. g Each screening video must be shipped on a separate video cassette in a separate box. h Each film and videotape must be provided with the following information: · film title; · running time; · projection data, as on the entry form; · name and address of contact. |
| 8 | Shipping costs a The shipping costs to the festival are at the expense of the sender. The cost of return will be borne by the festival. b We suggest all films and videos shipped from outside of The Netherlands to be sent and returned through your country's consular channels. If no consular service is available, mail your film/video via air mail postal service, prominently labeled 'for preview purposes only - no commercial value'. |
| 9 | Damage The festival organization cannot be held responsible for damage of the film copies and videotapes, unless this is due to negligence of the festival organization. |
| 10 | Publicity material In order to inform the public and the press sufficiently, we suggest that publicity material is included with the entry form, especially stills and posters. |
| 11 | Selection and jury a The jury for the competition for independent animation consists of five persons. The jury for the competition for applied animation consists of three persons. The jury represents different disciplines in the audiovisual field. b Persons who have an interest in the production or exploitation of a competing film cannot take a seat in the jury. c The festival organization will (pre-)select the films for competition. d In case a film is not selected for competition, it can be included in one of the other programmes if desired. |
| 12 | General Taking part in the festival implies acceptance without restrictions of these regulations and of interim decisions of the organization. |
