The festival organization is responsible for the official selection of the Holland Animation Film Festival 2006. The organization was surprised by the overwhelming amount of over 1,600 entries. Gerben Schermer, Erik van Drunen and Chantal Höster selected the films for the competition for independent animated shorts, the competition for applied animation and the student competition for the Netherlands and Belgium. The selected films for the competition for independent animated shorts are also eligible for the Golden MovieSquad HAFF Shield. Besides this there is also a selection with independent animated shorts for the MovieSquad HAFF Junior Shield.
